The overall number of global coronavirus cases has surpassed the 142 million mark, while the deaths have increased to over 3 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

As of Monday morning, the total number of cases stood at 1,42,621,220 , the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.

The US accounted for the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 31,792,013 and 568,460 respectively, according to the CSSE.

India came in second place with 15,321,089 infections and 180,530 deaths.
